Niki Cousineau is one of the artists creating a dance film for the Philadelphia edition of Dances Made to Order. Find out a little more about her…

Tell us about some of your upcoming projects in 2012/2013

In 2012/2013 we are working on a number of projects – first up in October is the musical Next to Normal at the Arden Theatre. I’m very excited to be a part of the creative team on that production which includes set and video design by Jorge Cousineau, with direction by Terry Nolen. www.ardentheatre.org

Subcircle is going to continue development of forget me…forget me not, a site-specific work we premiered at Shiloh Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Details TBD.

A lot of projects are still in the planning stages including a salon series at our home in the Maas Building in Philadelphia (http://www.maasbuilding.com/), a workshop performance and a residency for next summer at ENGINE (www.feedtheengine.org) in Biddeford Maine.

If we were going to spend the day with you hanging out in Philly, what would we do?

Philadelphia is a great walking city. I like to show people around our neighborhood of Northern Liberties. It’s a great community with lots of places to grab a coffee or check out a second hand shop or boutique. I’d probably start with a coffee at One Shot and show you some of the local shops and park.

We could grab a lunch at my favorite taqueria which is around the corner from our studio at the Maas building which we would visit on our walk.

In the evening we would grab dinner most likely Vietnamese or sushi and then go to a performance of a local Philadelphia experimental dance or theater company.

After the show we would go out for a cocktail or glass of wine.

What is your favorite drink and where do you get it?

Favorite drink would be a mojito or margarita. I’d probably get it in our neighborhood at North 3rd or in the beer garden at Silk City.

Tell us something surprising about yourself.

I am a complete tennis fanatic and award show junkie. I watch as much tennis as I can – though I do not play and will indeed watch just about any award show (except country music).
