Christina Leyva is a Los Angeles-based dancer, choreographer, and writer. With a modern-based movement practice, she has studied at The Ailey School, Cornish College of the Arts, and UCLA. Christina graduated from the Department of World Arts & Cultures with a BA in Dance in 2008, and has gone on to study Thai and Balinese dance in both LA and their respective countries. Choreographically, she explores movement vocabulary innovation informed by Modern, Thai, Balinese, and Hip Hop, and is fascinated by the juxtaposition of the ‘urban/e’ and the ‘natural.’ Christina currently dances with the Lan Sattha Thai Dance Group and Burat Wangi (CalArts), and is Coordinator for the Dance Resource Center, LA’s service organization for dance.
Christina created “The Cook is in the Parlor” with Amy Ling Huynh and Philip Graulty for the July 2011 edition. Get your tickets to view the film here.
