Jay Jackson and Lindsay Newton, recent graduates of the California Institute of the Arts, merged as co directors of NEWJAC, an explosive dance theatre company formed in May 2011. Jay Jackson, a 2007 Presidential Scholar of the Arts in choreography, began his career in musical theatre and toured nationally with the Will Rodgers Follies. Lindsay Newton, originally a ballet dancer, studied contemporary dance and choreography at University of North Carolina School of the Arts for high school and received supplementary training at Frequent Flyers Production Aerial Dance Theatre. Additionally, both choreographers have studied internationally, Jay on exchange with the London Contemporary School of Dance and Lindsay with the Ann Adamovic Workshop in Bois-Franc, France and the Bridge Choreographic Workshop in Tel Aviv, Israel. Together, they have created seven works with premieres at The Sharon Disney Lund Dance Theater, The Roy and Edna Disney/ CalArts Theater (REDCAT) and most recently the Rubel Castle in Glendora, CA. Sassy but classy, NEWJAC defies societal confinements by unleashing positive perspective for those that are ready to “Let the world have it!”
NEWJAC created “Thaw: An Adaptation of Icarus” for the September 2011 edition of Dances Made to Order.
